call for submissions

Reminder for CotL 30 subs

Once again I find that I've been rendered totally superfluous in the management of this blog carnival. Do you have any idea how wonderful that is!? Melissa from Shakespeare's Sister has posted her call for submissions, and you all have been sending in your submissions nonstop all on your own without a single intervention on my part. Thank you!

But just in case you've been out of the loop, this is just a reminder that Carnival of the Liberals #30 will be at Shakespeare's Sister on Wednesday, January 17 and Melissa needs your blog posts by midnight tonight. There's no theme this time so just your best liberal blogging will do. Oh, and of course, if you're interested in hosting Carnival of the Liberals (and why wouldn't you be), shoot me an e-mail with your preferred dates for hosting and any questions.

A late reminder for CotL 29

OK, it looks like everyone out ther is adjusting to my recent shoddy management of this blog carnival and is carrying on as if I wasn't even here. Yay! Thank you. I apologize for my flakiness of late but my personal life has been seriously kicking my online life's ass. In any event, what you should know is that the next Carnival of the Liberals is at Daylight Atheism on January 3rd, 2007.
Adam has posted his call for submissions days ago and unlike me you all have actually been paying attention. But just in case you haven't sent in your submission yet, now would be the time. If you've already sent in an entry but wish to send in another conforming more to Adam's guidelines, please, by all means, go for it. Adam didn't specify a deadline so I will. Get those submissions in by midnight the January 3rd and if Adam needs more time then we'll simply postpone CotL 29 by a day.
Thanks again everyone for making CotL a success and have a happy 2007.

Time to get this blog carnival started again

What would Carnival of the Liberals be without late announcements and shoddy management? Probably not run by me. In any case, it's time to get your blog posts in for CotL #28 and Grrlscientist has given you an extra day to make up for my lateness. The first edition of the second year of CotL is being held at Living the Scientific Life on Thursday, December 21. Grrlscientist needs your posts midnight Wednesday, EST.

You're holding out on me, oh yes you are!

OK everyone, I know there was a holiday in the middle there, I've been slacking off (as usual) and we've got another holiday coming up in just a couple of weeks but you're holding out on me. As you may recall, I'm hosting the 1st Anniversary Edition of Carnival of the Liberals at Neural Gourmet on December 6th. And as amazing as it is that CotL is 1 year old in just a few days (December 7th to be precise), we can't very well have an anniversary edition without your blog posts.

Down with turkeys!

It looks like Montag over at Stump Lane is getting a jump on The War On Christmas™ by pre-emptively declaring war on Thanksgiving for the 26th edition of the Carnival of the Liberals to be held next Wednesday, November 22. Well, despite Montag's inflationary rhetoric this edition is actually free-style but head on over to Stump Lane to get the big picture. Just be sure to have your submissions in by noon EST on Monday, November 20th.

And a reminder that I'll be hosting the 1st Anniversary Edition of Carnival of the Liberals at Neural Gourmet on December 6th. That's right, the very first edition of CotL appeared 1 year ago on December 7th at Brainshrub. It's really hard to believe we're coming up on a solid year of the web's only liberal blog carnival. This will be a best-of edition so I'll be looking for everybody to send in their best blog posts from the past year that haven't already appeared in, or been submitted to CotL in the past. More about what I'll be looking for when I post my call for submissions next week.

Your best meta-political posts needed for CotL 25

The next Carnival of the Liberals is at Philosophy, et cetera on November 8th, and Richard has came up with an intriguing theme. For CotL #25, Richard is asking you to put on your meta-political thinking caps and send in posts that "assess the state of political discourse, or the question of how politics should be conducted." Check out the call-for-submissions post for all the intricate details. In the meantime, Richard is in Australia so he'll need your posts by 9PM EST on Monday, November 6th.

This is a rather abstract theme so we're not limiting posts just to the meta-political, but it'd be great if we all could take a step back from the fray and do a little introspection. If you've sent in posts already... Thanks! They'll still be considered, as will any great piece of writing. If you'd like to submit another post on-theme feel free to do so.

See everyone over at Philosophy, et cetera a week from tomorrow.

Your bi-weekly CotL nag

Thanks for everyone who has sent in their submissions early the past couple of editions. You have no idea how much this eases the work of our hosts and lowers my personal stress level. But just in case you've been holding out on us, Carnival of the Liberals #24 will be at Perspectives of a Nomad this Wednesday, October 25th. Scott needs your blog posts by midnight New York time on Tuesday October 24th (although there's a little bit of slack in that deadline). So if you've haven't sent in your submissions yet, if you've been taking the time to finely craft your art, if your muse has poor time management skills or if you just want to show up those brown-nosing early worms because you know that procrastination is the key to quality writing, well, fair warning kiddies, it's crunch time. Take a look at what Scott has to say and get writing!

Also, we still need hosts for the November 22nd edition, the December 20th edition and every single edition thereafter. Haven't hosted before? Well, why not!? Maybe it's not as much fun as sex, drugs or rock'n'roll but believe me, it's up there in the top ten for sure. Plus it's a great way of getting those extra eyeballs we all crave as bloggers. I'd prefer a CotL participant who has never hosted before, but any past participant in CotL is welcome. Drop me a line if you're interested in hosting.

Sharpen your keyboards for CotL 23

That's right. It's time to sharpen your keyboards and put on your thinking caps because Carnival of the Liberals #23 will be here sooner than you think. And thanks to Karl Weber over at World Wide Webers, we're not doing our usual procrastinating this time around. CotL #23 is Wednesday, October 11th but Karl will need your liberal brilliance by Noon on Tuesday, October 10th. Head on over to the World Wide Webers for the lowdown, including the great poster Karl created for this edition.

It's submissions time for CotL 22

Carnival of the Liberals is heading to Tasmania this time around with Martin doing the hosting honors at the great Aussie blog Writings On The Wall. As we've done in previous weeks, the Carnival is au naturale and bereft of themes so the field is wide open for topics. Give Martin's post a read for the gory details but let me just point out the time difference. The Carnival will be posted at midnight GMT on September 27 which means Martin needs your submissions by midnight GMT on September 26. For our U.S. submitters that's 8PM New York time, and 5PM California time on the 25th. Everybody else can figure out the time difference for theirself.

Carnival of the Liberals #21 reminder

Well, I've been slacking off this week but you haven't. We've already gotten some great submissions for next week's Carnival of the Liberals #21 being held over at John McKay's Archy. Still, if you've been holding out on us, your time is running out. CotL #21 is this coming Wednesday, September 13 and John needs your posts by dinnertime on the 12th. Use the blogcarnival.com submission form or e-mail cotl DASH submissions AT carnivaloftheliberals DOT com.

CotL #20 needs your blog posts

I can't believe that it's over a week already since the last Carnival of the Liberals. Where does the time go these days? Carnival of the Liberals #20 is being held Wednesday, August 30th at The Greenbelt. You can get the scoop straight from Karen who is giving you a very generous deadline of Noon, Eastern Time on the 29th.

Posts needed for CotL #18

Jeff at reyonthehill posted his call for submissions for Carnival of the Liberals #18 yesterday and all bets are off because Jeff is suspending the rules for this edition. Well, all except for the host picking the 10 best entries, and that anything sent in has to be from a liberal perspective. I’m overriding Jeff’s suspension of those two, but aside from that the field’s wide open. CotL #18 will be Wednesday, August 2nd at reyonthehill with a deadline of Monday, July 31st by 11:59PM PST. Check jeff’s post for details.

Don’t forget about our special all parody poetry edition coming up with Carnival of the Liberals #19 on Wednesday, August 16th at One Flew East. We’re reminding you early because all posts for this edition have to be parody poems.

Call out for CotL #17

That's right, it's that time. If you haven't sent in a submission for Carnival of the Liberals #17 you better get blogging. CotL #17 will be Wednesday, July 19th at Brainshrub with a deadline of Monday, July 17 by 11:59PM EDT. Check Paul's post for details.

Don't forget about our special all parody poetry edition coming up with Carnival of the Liberals #19 on Wednesday, August 16th at One Flew East. We're reminding you early because all posts for this edition have to be parody poems.

CotL #16 Submissions Reminder

Well, I may be all wet from all the rain we've had the past few days but I haven't forgotten my biweekly nag posting.

Carnival of the Liberals #16 will be Wednesday, July 5th at The Uncredible Hallq with a deadline of Monday, July 3rd by 11:59PM EDT. What, you're still reading this? Why!? You've got submissions to send in!

But it's probably good you decided to stick around for a bit because we've got a special heads up about CotL #19 which is being hosted by Aaron Barlow on Wednesday, August 16th at One Flew East. At Aaron's suggestion we're going to try something a little different for this edition. Parody poetry. That's right, Aaron's going to want all of your submissions to be poems parodying politics, politicians, conservative or other ideologies. Heck, I suppose you can even parody liberalism if it's in good nature. Also, for this edition only we're lifting the 'recent posts only' in case you've got that mock epic you wrote this past January that you're just dying to send in. For CotL #19, anything written in 2006 goes. Well, as long as it's funny and rhymes.

CotL #14 Wants Your Blog Posts

Carnival of the Liberals #14 will be hosted by Michael Stiber at Expert Opinion on Wednesday,  June 7th so shoot your submissions Michael’s way. Deadline is by midnight Pacific Time on Monday, June 5th. The theme this bi-week is no-theme again, which is good because as much as we all like themes I think we were all themed out there.

Biweekly Liberal Carnivaling Reminder

Carnival of the Liberals #13 Graphic designed by Lucky White GirlCarnival of the Liberals #13 is just a week away. You'll find CotL #13 over at Lucky White Girl on Wednesday, May 24th. Unfortunately, the Lucky White Girl wasn't so lucky and has to be out of the country that day. But that's OK because she's leaving behind GIL to guest blog this bi-week's CotL. GIL needs your posts a little early though, so be sure to send in your liberal best by Sunday, May 21st. No specific theme this week, but here's what GIL suggests...

"...go for current events, up to the minute commentary, sharp political analysis!  Wake us up!  Show us the world from a different perspective.  GIL suggests posts about taking action, things we can do, causes you're involved in that we can help out on (such as the campaign against Coca-Cola for complicity in human rights abuses in Colombia, for example)."

And how cool is this nifty Art Deco style poster for CotL #13 designed by Lucky White Girl?

CotL #12 Submissions Reminder

If you haven’t written that killer blog post yet, it’s time to start writing. Carnival of the Liberals #12 is at Daylight Atheism on Wednesday, May 10th. Ebon Muse didn’t specify a deadline, but you should try to have your posts in by Monday, May 8th sometime before midnight. Additionally, this bi-week’s CotL is looking for posts on the following specific topics, but as usual any great writing from a liberal perspective is welcome:

  • Separation of church and state and efforts to violate it
  • Religion in politics, both the evils of the religious right and efforts by the religious left to make their voices heard
  • The effort to unify liberal single-issue groups into a progressive majority
Submissions have been a little light for this edition, so if you haven’t been represented in Carnival of the Liberals in a while, now’s your chance. After all, you’re not going to let Dr. Biobrain continue to dominate CotL are you?
|

Carnival Call Out Time, CotL #11

Spring has sprung, and apparently so has Dr. Biobrain. Perhaps from straining to write all those Carnival of the Liberals posts. I mean, he’s been in every CotL except two I think. In any case, word comes to us that Dr. Biobrain’s personal assistant and renowned conservative intellectual Dr. Snedley has usurped control of this edition of Carnival of the Liberals.

CotL #11 will be held on Wednesday, April 26th over at And Doctor Biobrain’s Response Is… Dr. Snedley’s deadline is Monday, April 24th sometime before midnight. As for the rest, you can see his demands for Carnival of the Liberals #11 yourself.

Jeff from Throw Away Your TV is back from vacation and has posted his first call for submissions for Carnival of the Liberals #7. CotL #7 will be on Wednesday, March 1, but Hamilton needs your submissions by next Monday, Feb. 27 at Noon EST. This will be the first time CotL will be hosted on a video blog which makes for a nice opportunity to experiment with using video in your own posts.
